On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, For A Smile’s Sake partnered with Maseno Girl Child Empowerment for a transformative Sanitary Pad Drive at Maseno Mixed Primary School. The event went beyond distributing sanitary pads; it aimed to empower young minds by providing education on menstrual health and breaking down societal stigmas.
Girls participated in an insightful session focused on understanding menstrual cycles, hygiene practices, and boosting confidence. Simultaneously, boys engaged in vital discussions about puberty, personal growth, and how to be allies in supporting the girl child through developmental changes.
This initiative reaffirmed For A Smile’s Sake’s commitment to girl-child empowerment and promoting holistic education for all.
Personnel Input
The event was led by the For A Smile’s Sake team in collaboration with Maseno Girl Child Empowerment founder, Perpetua Pollete.
The program began with an opening address highlighting the importance of menstrual health education. Sessions for the girls were facilitated by trained female mentors and health educators, providing a safe space for open discussions and questions.
In parallel, male students were engaged by male facilitators in a separate session focused on understanding puberty, emotional intelligence, and supporting gender equality.
After the discussions, sanitary pads were distributed to the girls, ensuring that each received sufficient supply to meet their needs.
